Profile: Donor Recruitment "Heather"

Personal profiles like "Heather" are a specialty of TimeSteps.  Our task is often to illustrate the challenges a subject has faced and show how the subject has overcome these challenges - giving that individual a new lease on life. 

 

Heather had a malignancy at age 5 that ultimately required the removal of several organs. She had extensive blood transfusions to support her surgeries. This is her story, shot in her home and local environs, in which she shares her appreciation for all the blood donors who helped restore her to good health.

In "Research" the  work at The National Cord Blood Program at the Howard P. Milstein National Cord Blood Center is featured along with the efforts at NYBC's Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute. The Center has distributed cord blood units throughout the U.S. and internationally, with more than 4,900 units shipped to 220-plus transplant centers in 38 countries spanning six continents. World-class researchers at NYBC's Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute lead the way in pioneering blood research focused on global health issues, from HIV and hepatitis to malaria and thalassemia. 

Educational: Environmental Awareness "Walleye and the Fish Band"

Produced as both a thirty-second PSA for movie theaters and as a two-minute web video, TimeSteps had the challenge of educating audiences about ways to stop the spread of VHS disease in the Great Lakes region as part of a regional advertising campaign for the USDA/APHIS.

 

An underwater rock band of fish singing an original song about the environmental issue and its solution. Walleye and the Fish Band sing "Help Save Our Waters," to educate boaters and anglers on the perils of VHS disease (viral hemorrhagic septicemia) -- a virus that is decimating 17 species of fish in the Great Lakes.

Institutions for higher education are competing for the brightest and the best.  More than once, Rutgers has called on TimeSteps to create appealing videos that resonate the school's spirit and sense of purpose.

 

Grounded in traditions as old as the University itself, the Rutgers Library System is constantly evolving as a digital media network, serving students, faculty, and the community at large.

 

The challenge was to capture the relevance of the libraries, preserving  the balance between these older services and the new technologies that make the library system so vital today.

Since TimeSteps was founded, we have had a focus on historical retrospectives and milestone celebrations for our clients. From longer, Ken Burns-style documentaries to shorter timecapsule treatments, we have been called on for our expertise in archival footage and imaginative treatments.

 

In this 50th Anniversary video, produced for a fundraising Gala at the Waldorf Hotel, New York Blood Center is featured as one of the largest community-based blood, cellular therapy, and transfusion medicine research centers in the world.

'Exxon Opportunity and Advantage"

TimeSteps wrote and produced this long-format history of Exxon's Research and Engineering Division in the Ken Burns tradition for the energy company's 75th Anniversary.

 

The challenge was to distill their long, rich history into an entertaining and educational documentary-style program.  A classic in oil and gas museums these many years later.

Our client challenged us with communicating a fairly complex message about a new technology WITHOUT

voice-over narration. 

 

So using only text, music and pictures, we created a charming animation which explains Automated Red Blood Cell Donation, a technology that allows blood donors to give twice as many units of red blood cells as traditional methods.
